Greenwich Loft Design
Loft design is as much a state of mind as it is a decorating plan. The original lofts were industrial spaces converted to residential use. Sometimes the conversions were very crude -- wires running everywhere; nothing to code; old floorboards that creaked -- but for city dwellers cramped into high rise apartments, loft living took on mythic status and many new loft dwellers have spent a small fortune on converting new construction to look like the lofts of yore!
The major question when you're designing a loft apartment is what to do about walls. Many families who are buying true lofts are turning them into regular apartments with walls. While many high rise dwellers are doing everything can to open their spaces.
In either instance, I think what's important is to go to the spirit of lofts rather than an imitation of yesterday. This loft was designed for a young family; with swirls of colors and modern materials. Call me if you'd like to see more lofts by this architect. —Karen Fisher
