I’ve been privileged to work with three of New York’s top interior designers – Paul Siskin, Clodagh and Laura Bohn. I can tell you from first-hand knowledge that it’s an awe-inspiring experience. People always think New York’s top interior designers are more expensive, more difficult, less willing to compromise. But I find it exactly the opposite.
For instance, yesterday I was shopping with Laura Bohn, who is doing my Miami apartment. We were in the flower district buying palm trees for my patio. She spotted a fern-covered ball in a faux-concrete urn that’s perfect for the coffee table that was $40, including tax. Then she un-earthed an antique wood serving tray that the owner didn’t even know was there – and was so glad to get rid of that he just about gave it to us.
I’ve had this same experience with Clodagh and Paul Siskin. They not only save me money by spotting great buys – they also save me from making mistakes. Paul’s way of saying that a picture isn’t to his taste is “art is so personal”; and Clodagh just shakes her head. When you’re working with New York’s top interior designers, you need thick skin: but the rewards are well worth it – which is why the world makes a path to them.
