That’s the question prospective clients often ask themselves? Should they hire a famous Manhattan designer who has been in the business for years, knows all the resources, has a proven track record? Or take a chance on a young interior designer or architect who has great ideas, a big vision and not much work to show you?
It’s a tough question. On the one hand, hiring a top interior designer New York is like buying insurance; but if you go with a younger designer, you don’t know what will happen. I’m a believer in considering young interior designers. Every famous interior designer was a young designer once – and if you have the courage to go with your gut and meet a young interior designer who you bond with, my advice would be to go with it.
The only caveat I have is that they should be well-trained. I would suggest considering the designers they’ve worked with in the past. New York interior design is like a trade system, where the young learn from the masters. Check their references and if everything checks out, you could be on your way to working with one of New York’s next great interior designers or architects.
