You’d think that denizens of places like London, Paris and Rio, would be so used to great designers and architects that they would be blasé to the charms of New York’s top interior designers. Not so. The first thing they do when getting ready to sign on for one of Manhattan’s trophy properties is to ask which designer to hire?
Karen Fisher, who represents more than 300 of New York’s top interior designers is often a first choice. Fisher, who has just matched a Saudi client, a French client and a Shanghai client, in the last weeks, says that people from other countries love the originality of top New York interior designers.
“They do things that our designers would never consider,” says the wife of an Asian industrialist, who was charmed by the smart colors and interesting mix of furniture in her high rise apartment.
New York interior designers enjoy working with long-distance foreign clients because the jobs are usually much more efficient than when jobs are here. When both client and designer know they’ll have a limited time together, they tend to focus and make decisions more quickly.
